Designing a cohesive suite of industry aligned eLearning programs that support HIA members with practical knowledge, compliance capability and professional development outcomes.

PROBLEM

The Housing Industry Association (HIA) needed to modernise their training delivery for the Certificate IV and Diploma in Building and Construction. Their existing resources were primarily paper based, making them difficult to manage, update, and deliver consistently across cohorts.

HIA wanted to: 

• Digitise course content to support flexible, self-paced learning. 
  
• Create engaging, animated case studies aligned to each unit of competency. 
• Ensure materials reflected real-world construction scenarios while meeting compliance requirements. 
• Set up their Learning Management System (Canvas) to host the course effectively. 
• Support blended delivery through virtual session slide decks and learner activities. 

SOLUTION

Strawberry Solutions partnered with HIA over a 3-year period to deliver a complete digital transformation of their building and construction qualifications. 

Key components of the solution: 

• Resource conversion and design
  We transformed paper-based content for each unit of competency into structured, eLearning using clear instructional design principles and graphic design enhancements. 
• Animated case studies
  For each unit, we developed animated scenario-based case studies that brought course content to life. These were carefully tailored to the roles and challenges learners face in the construction industry. 
• Canvas LMS setup
  We configured HIA’s Canvas LMS environment to support the courses, including structured modules, assessment uploads, marking workflows, and access settings. 
• Virtual session assets
  To support blended delivery, we created slide decks and virtual activities aligned to each unit, enabling trainers to run engaging and interactive online sessions. 
• Collaborative development process
  Throughout the project, we worked closely with HIA’s subject matter experts and RTO team to review drafts, validate content, and design.
